At the tail end of our honeymoon, my husband and I decided that it was time to leave the cold and head up to a place wear bikini, happy hour and sunscreen would be the most spoken words. It was early in January and pretty cold in the province of Guanajuato where we had stayed for 10 days (3 days in San Miguel de Allende and 7 days in Guanajuato City). Our final stop was Los Cabos, Mexico.

We stayed at Cabo Azul in San Jose del Cabo where there were no “spring breakers” but more of honeymooners and retirees running away from the subzero climates back home. Cabo San Lucas is where all the wild parties are and I’m glad we stayed out of that. What we wanted was some quiet time where we can sit all day by the pool and read a book and have cocktails as early as 1 pm.

The pool in Cabo Azul is gorgeous. There are 3 big pools that are connected and the water gets colder as you go down closer to the sea. The sun was blazing but you won’t feel the heat because of the cool breeze from the ocean. I highly recommend this resort, service is impeccable and the rate is truly value for money. We heard this place is also a popular wedding venue for many Americans.

How pretty are these hanging lamps? Our room overlooks a smaller pool and a jacuzzi.

Cabo Essentials: Hat, sunnies and a sundress! (Dress from Seek the Uniq; Hat from F&F; Bag from Kate Spade)

Of the numerous activities offered in Cabo, we settled with the Camel Back Riding and Humpback Whale Watching organized by Cabo Adventures. The Camel  back riding was fun and a first time for me. The camels were rescued from a Mexican zoo and because Cabo is also a desert with the same climate as the Middle East, the camels acclimated well. We got to ride the camel by the beach and after that, a sumptuous Mexican feast was waiting for us as part of the package.

A bit bizarre to ride camels by the sea but it was something fun to experience.

Cactus everywhere! Most are taller than me!

Whale Watching was  a tad bit of a disappointment because we spotted a few whales breaching but only from a distance. It was breaching season then and we had hoped for some serious breaching action up close. Our guide said it’s a hit and miss kinda thing.  On our way back, we spotted a seal clinging at the back of the speedboat waiting to be fed by the passengers. The passengers obliged and it was a fun sight.

Honeymooners in Cabo.

If you are looking for a chill place to vacation with your partner or with your family, San Jose del Cabo is a tourist friendly place that is quite developed and modern. On the downside, because of its accessibility to the US, this place can be quite touristy and places like this may tend to be pricey.  But then again, if you want some cool pool time, Cabo Azul is worth it!
