A balm as a cleanser? That was one of the first things that came to mind when I received the Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm from Pixi Skintreats. I normally use makeup removers for sensitive skin like the Bioderma Sensibio H20 and Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser and I have never really tried a solid product as my first step to cleansing my skin.

So what is this cleansing balm about? The Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm is a textured cleanser that melts into oil the moment you start rubbing it in on your skin. It’s on the thick side but I don’t mind it because the product turns into oil as you massage it on your skin. It gently removes all traces of makeup while hydrating your skin.

Step 1: Take a small amount (coin size) of the balm and apply on the face.

Step 2: Massage on to skin.

Step 3: Remove using a cleansing wipe or damp face cloth

Step 4: Follow cleansing with your face wash.

I believe in the Korean philosophy of double cleansing and I use a face wash after using this product. (I use DermaVeen from my dermatologist on regular days and Pixi Mud Cleanser on weekend to exfoliate! I’m such a fan of the mud cleanser!)

What makes the skin plumped and nourished after using the Nourishing Cleansing Balm? Well, it contains sweet almond oil, shea butter and Vitamin E so no wonder my skin was noticeably soft and smooth after each use, and more so the next day. This product also doubles as a mask. Instead of using it as a makeup remover, put it on clean face and leave for 5 minutes for a moisture boost (for people with dry skin).

I’m picky when it comes to skincare and this definitely makes the cut for skin-loving, paraben-free makeup melters that is great for all types of skin!

Have you tried a cleansing balm before? Let me know how you liked it!
