Model, actress, and former PBB Housemate, Wendy Tabusalla, shares with us how joining a popularreality show has changed her life. Learn about her beauty secrets and indulgences in her Real People feature.
1. How did you end up in Pinoy Big Brother and how has the show changed your life?
Around September 2011, I auditioned for PBB and it was a very long process. After I finished my reign as Miss Resorts World 2010 in October 2011, I got a call from PBB saying that I got in the show as one of their housemates. Being there for three months taught me a lot especially in dealing with different kinds of people, being patient, and to always be determined to reach your goals. After PBB, I was one of the lucky housemates who was given a contract with StarMagic (a talent management in ABS-CBN).
From there, I started doing workshops to further enhance my acting skills, I started performing in mall shows (both within the metro and out of town), I’ve had TV appearances, and of course I still did some modeling on the side.
Being in PBB gave me a lot of opportunities to experience acting on TV, getting workshops from best directors and endorsements too. It was different after the show because everywhere I go people will notice that I was one of the housemates in Pinoy Big Brother. It’s really fun! And I owe them everything that I have now!:)
2. You are a familiar face in fashion having been a model for years. What do you enjoy more, acting or modeling and why?
Honestly, I enjoy acting but my heart is in modeling! Maybe because that’s where I started, gained a lot of friends, and had a lot of experiences already. Acting is similar to modeling as they are both showcasing art – I get to portray different kinds of roles by modelling different kinds of clothes from different brands and designers.
However, I love modelling because I can be myself more and it’s a way for me to show who I am with the way I walk, pose, I smile, etc. In acting, you always have to follow what the director tells you to do, you have to put yourself in the character’s position. Plus, I love fashion that’s why I get excited to learn about new trends! 🙂
3. What does your daily beauty regimen look like?
I wash my face with Cetaphil in the morning before I leave house and also before sleeping. I make sure to always put on toner, eye cream, and lipbalm after washing my face. Sunblock in the morning at moisturizer at night.
4. What’s your one beauty indulgence?
I don’t really spend that much on beauty products. I only use Cetaphil, toner from my dermatologist, eye cream and moisturizer from Kiehl’s, and sunblock from Clarins. The latter the most expensive one I have so far.
5. Any beauty secret that you learned from your mom?
My mom would always remind me to never sleep with makeup on, always wash your face before sleeping. And drinks lots of water to hydrate your skin.
6. What is/are your must-have beauty product (s)?
7. Best beauty discovery from abroad?
Best beauty discovery from abroad is the Ben Nye Banana Powder! It’s perfect for highlighting and also as an under eye powder. Just apply it affer concealer to set.
8. What useful makeup trick(s) did you learn from being a model and actress?
Definitely, less is more. I don’t usually wear makeup on regular days. During photoshoots or fashion shows I love the “beauty” or “no makeup” look, and as an actress less is also better because it brings out your natural beauty. But ONE makeup trick that can enhance your natural beauty is to curl your lashes, put on mascara and put on eyeliner near your eyelids. This is the best trick that I’ve learned.
9. You love fashion and you are always attuned with the latest trends. If you were to raid someone’s closet, whose closet would it be and why?
I would love to raid Kim Kardashian’s closet. I love how her fashion sense evolved from very sexy revealing to classic chic. I am in love with her style now even more, it’s very classy but chic. She can wear something in the morning and can wear it until night. I also love that she’s very voluptuous and knows what looks good on her body type.
10. One word that best describes you?
Simple. I don’t usually wear makeup or dress up when it’s not needed. I love wearing tank tops, jeans or shorts and don’t usually wear heels. I don’t like wearing accessories too, unless i really need to dress up and get made up. That’s why I enjoy modeling as I can experience all the fashion trends without buying them all!
