I often get reactions from clients of how overwhelmed they are by how much tools I bring with me in my makeup kit, but of course that much tools are required for a professional like me. For newbies or for a personal kit, you don’t need as much. In fact, you only need a few basic items when starting out!
Here’s a quick guide:
Tweezers or shaver for grooming brows. I once heard that if your eyes is a window to your soul, then the eyebrows is the curtain. This is to emphasize the importance of the brows as it frames your eyes. Keep them clean and groomed.
Sponge and cotton buds for blending and/or correcting makeup. Use these when you might need to erase some eye shadow or eyeliner, or when you put too much foundation and you want to thin it out.
Lash curler. Easiest and most effective way to curl those lashes. My favorite is from Shiseido!
Sharpener. You need this for your eyeliner and brow liner, if you use a pencil! I love the sharpener of Pixi.
Essential Brushes. When applying makeup, precision can only be achieved by using the right brush. This will enable you to apply makeup flawlessly, while observing hygiene!
You will need:
- Blush or powder brush
- Eyeshadow brush
- Eyeshadow Blending brush
- Eye defining brush
- Eyeliner brush
- Eye brow brush
Brush sets are widely available these days. You may check out ECOTOOLS Six-Piece Starter Set! This one can easily be brought around during your travels.
Brush cleanser. It’s important to keep your brushes clean to avoid skin blemishes and product contamination. For quick cleaning, I highly recommend J&C Super Clean Solutions Brush Cleaner.
The most important thing you need to make sure is keeping your tools clean at all times. Enjoy building your kit!
