Young mom and entrepreneur on-the-rise Nikki Yupangco-Garcia dishes out her beauty secrets and the story behind Aurora, her latest venture into hand-crafted wrap bracelets that empower the artisans behind it.
1. When did you start you start “Aurora” and how did you get into it?
Aurora began in August 2012. I moved back to Manila from Vancouver last year wanting to give back in some way; to empower the less-fortunate through creativity and craft. While living in North America and raising my young family, my goal was to fulfill each of my roles as best I could. I wanted to raise a family and run a household, while not just being a mother and wife. I was constantly juggling daily todo’s while brainstorming other challenges I could take-on for myself.
I’ve learned, what most women have in common is a constant inner-battle to better ourselves; whether in our career, as a mother, wife, homemaker, sister, daughter or friend. We want it all, and until recently, we did not have the tools and resources to achieve our goals. Each of us share dreams and ambitions, all are to better ourselves in order to give back to the people we love most. They say we cannot have our cake and eat it too. Aurora believes we can. Through Aurora, I wish to empower not only the women who craft our wraps, but consumer who wears them. Each unique hand crafted wrap bracelet is a symbol of our movement to express ourselves through color and design.
2. Where do you get your design inspirations?
Design inspirations for our jewels come from colour trends, different seasons, client ideas and feedback. Since each wrap is handcrafted, my goal is to make each design raw, unique and truly authentic.
3. What does your daily beauty regimen look like?
My beauty regimen is simple. I begin with a mild facial cleanser then use a pea-sized amount of a light moisturizer.
For everyday, I use tinted moisturizer, a light dusting of bronzing powder, a neutral eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and tinted or natural lip balm.
4. What’s your one beauty indulgence?
I indulge on a monthly facial and diamond peel. Until recently, I did not realize the importance of skin maintenance. I thought I could get away using a facial cleaner and non-greasy moisturizer. It took a few months to notice the results, but my skin has never looked better.

5. Any beauty secret that you learned from your mom?
Less is more, always go back to basics. The less you experiment with products and the less put on your face, the better for your skin.
6. What is/are your must-have beauty product (s)?
A compact of Bobbi Brown’s Bronzing powder in 1 Golden Light.
With ultra-pale skin, this powder gives me the right amount of colour without making me orange.
7. Best beauty discovery from abroad?
I love Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It works wonders. With the humidity and heat, this product allows eyeshadow and eyeliner to stay put from day to night.
8. What beauty trend do you find horrendous?
I love the look of dramatic, dark, full false eyelashes, but get uncomfortable when I see girls during the day, wearing falsies that are too heavy, long, straight and unnatural. It’s difficult for me to carry a conversation with them when I’m distracted by the exaggerated fluttering of their lashes.
9. If you were to raid someone’s closet, whose closet would it be and why?
Definitely, Kate Hudson’s closet. I admire her effortless looks on and off the red carpet. Her staples are so raw, basic and chic. Her accessories and shoes always make her outfits stand out.
10. One word that best describes you?
