BB creams, also known as Blemish Balms or Beauty Balms, became such a huge hit in the Philippine market in the last couple of years, and without a doubt have taken the beauty industry by storm. If you’re curious about how this trend started, it all began in the 1950’s when German dermatologist, Christine Schrammek, developed a product for her patients after they had just come from treatments like skin peels and facials. The BB cream (or Blemish Balm) was designed to soothe skin while hiding redness and marks. Thirty years later, the product was introduced to the Korean market, which then quickly became popular all over Asia.
BB creams are essentially a tinted moisturizer with more coverage, skincare benefits, and anti-aging benefits. They’re lightweight and very easy to use, and they also have high sunscreen protection. It gives you a fresh look without exerting any effort—ideal for daily use, especially if you don’t like putting on makeup everyday. It’s a hybrid of a foundation, moisturizer, anti-aging cream, and sunscreen! No wonder it immediately became every girl’s must-have!
It’s a moisturizing mineral BB cream that spreads well and is absorbed quickly by the skin to create a natural finish. It comes in two types: Natural Beige and Medium Beige. The first time I tried it, I was instantly amazed at how easily it spread. I also liked how it didn’t make my face too pale (unlike other BB creams I’ve tried). It effectively hides pores and blemishes. It’s light and gentle, and I love that the size conveniently fits my bag just in case I need a retouch.
It works well as a primer, too. After washing my face, I applied it and dusted some powder before putting on the rest of my makeup. For those who want coverage but are not big on heavy makeup, this is the perfect product for you!
